Video and Photo Analysis is the use of a video recording device or photographic camera to capture and analyze one’s posture, biomechanics and muscle imbalances. Put simply, this is the detailed study of human movement and posture whereby subtle yet critical pieces of information are collected and incorporated into the treatment plan. This is a valuable method of uncovering information that would have otherwise gone unnoticed from a standard physical examination.
Video and photo analysis is commonly applied to assess one’s walking and running pattern (“gait”) or ergonomic tendencies while at work. Video analysis is used by many athletes to correct faulty movements, improve efficiency and ultimately maximize performance. This tool is a great advantage not only to healthcare providers but also to patients who now have the ability to observe and reflect on their own postures, movements and biomechanical tendencies.
